There are so many sounds around us, sounds of objects and beings, which create our ambience. Most of these sounds go unnoticed, or are registered only in our subconscious mind; to which our brain gets adapted and neglects. These sounds if not in our environment, will result in an uncomfortable silence.

In this project, idea is to create awareness about "Deforestation". The stubs of trees, represents the state of forests. The sounds from these trees will cease to exist and will only be a part of our imagination.

As a person goes near to these, songs of birds, squirrels rustling of leaves are heard, and then fades as the person goes away.

Initial Exploration: Audible In

Amongst so many sounds, there are sounds which we cannot hear, but they still constitute our environment. I would like to call these unheard sounds, hidden sounds, which cannot be heard mainly due to hearing limitations. The aim of my project is to bring in notice such sounds and make people conscious of the "Sound Environment" around us.

The sounds I have selected are the ones, which are out of our hearing range. Still, these sounds can be recorded and processed. I find it interesting to see how people would visualise these sounds. It would also be interesting to note with what they would associate these hidden sounds.

Some real life examples of hidden sounds are the rotation and revolution of Earth, rumblings of an earthquake anywhere in the world, gravitational pull of the moon and Sun. All these natural processes produce slow vibrations within the Earth that are too low for us to hear. These sounds are brought in the range of human perception and they compose my sound script.
